November / December: Virtual Meetings
Club members got together using the ZOOM meeting software for social chats in November and December.

March: National Show at Coventry
The 2020 show was cancelled due to the current Coronavirus situation.

March: Internal Competition
12 members attended the meeting. Kevin opened the meeting by introducing our usual internal competition and handed over to Chris who handed out wine marking sheets and asked members to consider each wine on its merits focussing on bouquet and flavour. There were two competition classes 1) a fixed recipe Chardonnay and 2) a dry, medium or sweet Rosé. There were three entries for the Chardonnay from Peter R, Elaine and Kevin. Eight entries for the Rosé were two from Peter R, Elaine, Kevin, Eddie, Robert and two from Chris. Kevin gave passed around a sample of Cabalie 2018 13.5%, Catalan Red (70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Carignan) from Laithwaites, while Chris added up the points allotted around the table on an awarded place basis.
The results were as follows:
Chardonnay fixed recipe:- 1st Kevin, 2nd Peter R, 3rd Elaine
Rose:- 1st Robert, 2nd Kevin, 3rd Eddie, 4th Peter R
At the close of the meeting, the current Coronavirus situation was discussed and it was agreed that the next two meetings would be cancelled as an initial response with future review as necessary.

February: Homebrew vs Commercial Beer Tasting
9 members attended. Kevin introduced an evening devoted to the comparison of commercial beers and the home brew “equivalents” produced by member brewers.
The following beers were tasted and discussed by all -
Kevin a) Homebrew German Pilsner 5.5% (Light Lager)
b) Homebrew Strong Lager 8.1%
c) Homebrew Northern Brown 5.3% which was compared to commercial Newcastle Brown 4.7%
Peter a) Homebrew clone of Timothy Taylors Landlord 4.8% and this was compared to the commercial version at 4.1%
b) Homebrew clone of Guinness 4.8% compared to the commercial at 4.2%
Chris a) Homebrew clone of Everards Tiger Bitter 3.5% compared to the commercial at 4.2%
b) Homebrew clone of Worthington White Shield 5.5%. Unfortunately, a commercial version could not be found.
Most of the homebrew offerings were met favourably when compared to the commercial beers.
Elaine thanked the member brewers for providing the beer.

January: Burns Night Celebration
15 members attended the meeting for an early celebration of the forthcoming Burns night (January 25th). Traditional Scottish food and drinks were at hand. Peter and Elaine supplied delicious haggis including a vegetarian version. Kevin brought the tatties and gravy, Chris & Carol the neeps and David a traditional dessert - Cranachan. Two examples of home brewed Belhaven Wee Heavy were provided by Peter R and Chris and Peter also treated the members to a shot of Bells whisky. Kevin brought along a microwave to heat the haggis and background bagpipe music. Kevin got into the Scottish spirit and wore his kilt which he admitted he had struggled to get into. Kevin addressed the haggis at the start of the meal with a reading of the 'Ode to the haggis' which was written by Robert Burns, and also read out a resumé of Robert Burns' life.
