DICKENSIAN EVENING: At the Annual Dickensian Evening in Ware in December, the Wine Club set up a mulled wine stall to raise money for the ROBIN HOOD RELIEF FUND in New York. Over 10 gallons of mulled wine was dispensed to the public in a very hectic evening. The grand sum of £312 was raised for the charity.

AUTUMN DANCE: The club held an Autumn Dance in November to support the Alzheimer’s and Arthritis Care. £350 was raised for these two charities.

ANNUAL SHOW: The club's own Annual Show took place in July was again a highly successful event. Over 110 entries in the 16 wine, beer and food classes were assessed by five nationally-qualified judges. In the evening, 15 of us sat down in Place House to eat the food entries (17 courses), and sample the prize-winning wines.

TRIP TO THE CHAMPAGNE, ALSACE AND BURGUNDY REGIONS OF FRANCE:
Peter and Elaine again joined members of Hoddesdon, Andover, Luton, and Peterborough wine circles on a trip to France organised by Judith Irwin. This time we travelled through the Channel Tunnel and enjoyed our first wine tasting whilst ‘under water’. Various tastings were organised by Judith in the three areas visited. Together with the wines tasted on the coach - whilst travelling to the next hotel - and wines at dinner and the tastings we went to on our own - including 18 different wines in cellars in Beaune! - we calculated that we tasted at least 87 different wines! An excellent holiday, food, drink and weather-wise.
